A trained scientist, a passionate ‘‘everythingist’’ and an incurable perfectionist.
Idiotic and brilliant by turns.
Hi,
My name is Nisha. The two lines above pretty much encapsulate the rest of my being! Here’s a bit more- I am a science enthusiast, a wannabe gardener, a harried mom of two adorable (well, not always) kids and a passionate advocate of millets. If you stumbled into my blog while reading up about millets, a warm welcome to you!
Let me start off with a bit about my association with millets. I have to admit that I knew nothing about them before my son was born. Nine years ago, the search for healthy grains to get my son started on solids marked my initiation into the world of millets. I have been hooked ever since.
Millets are a group of diverse nutrient-dense grains, each with a different taste and nutritional profile. I have experimented with their use in different dishes like a person possessed. Learning to cook with a new set of nearly ten grains, while I have spent my life having only two, was no mean feat. There have been massive hits, and dismal failures. I have had the kids finish off my first batch of millet payasam in no time. And I have seen my loving husband struggle to gulp down an inedible morsel of an experimental millet dish while remarking, ‘A bit more salt would have done the trick.’ We both knew that it wasn’t just about the salt, but the cheerful spirit with which my family has put up with my experiments is the reason why this blog exists. To my relief (and theirs), I have come a long way since then!
I started this blog to document the millet recipes that I have discovered in the course of this wonderful journey. And yes, to allow my husband to use them as reference while cooking a healthy weekend breakfast for his wifey. Ok, that’s a long shot. The hubby and the kids are not going to go through my recipe and cook a hot, hearty, healthy breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning - who am I kidding? In all probability, they will dash off to their favorite bakery to pick up that much-loved pie. For the rest of you, who wish to stay true to their New Year resolution of home cooking and healthy eating, I hope that my blog offers you what you are looking for. It would be a pleasure to have you on this journey towards rediscovering millets in all their glory. Happy cooking!
